Forget the Temps: We Offer Same-Day Dental Crowns

If you’re struggling with one or more damaged or decaying teeth, dental crowns can preserve your oral health and your smile. And thanks to advances in dental technology, you can now get your crown faster with our same-day dental crown service.

The dental providers At Dental Studios in Summit and Westfield, New Jersey, can help you skip the temporary prosthetics and receive your permanent crown in one visit — no two-week waiting period required!

Here’s a closer look at how same-day crowns can solve your dental issues in a single trip to our office.

Understanding dental crowns

Dentists recommend crowns for different reasons, including improving or preserving the health of your teeth and boosting the appearance and feel of your smile. Other benefits include:

These prosthetic dental devices, or caps, are custom made to fit comfortably and permanently over your natural tooth. Your Dental Studios provider first shapes the tooth to accommodate a prosthetic crown so fits snuggly and in line with surrounding teeth.

Getting the crown involves taking an impression of your shaped tooth and the teeth around it. Traditionally, a lab uses that impression to create a made-to-order crown customized for your mouth. When it’s complete, your dentist places and adheres the crown with dental cement to give you permanent protection.

Understanding same-day crowns

Traditional crowns typically involve multiple visits and the use of a temporary crown while your lab-created prosthetic was manufactured. This means waiting up to two weeks between the preparation of your natural tooth and the placement of your permanent crown.

Thanks to the development of the CEREC system, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic, the providers at Dental Studios can give you same-day, fully customized ceramic crowns that fit perfectly and work the same way traditional crowns do.

The procedure is similar to receiving a traditional crown, beginning with your Dental Studios provider removing any existing dental restorations and taking steps to address any damage or decay. Your provider then prepares your tooth to receive a crown by shaping it.

They next apply a tasteless powder and use a high-resolution digital camera to take detailed photos of the treatment area. Special 3D-imaging software makes an optical impression of the treatment tooth. This image gets converted into a 3D model, and our in-office milling machine makes a customized ceramic crown in about 50 minutes.

Once your CEREC crown is ready, your Dental Studios provider polishes it, fits it to your natural tooth, and makes any adjustments needed for fit and comfort before cementing it in place. Once it’s set, you simply care for it the way you do your other teeth and maintain regular dental check-ups.
