Don’t Wait! Repair Damaged Teeth With Same-Day Crowns

There are many advances in dental technology that make fixing and preserving your oral health and smile so much easier. At Dental Studios in Summit and Westfield, New Jersey, one of our favorite technologies is same-day dental crowns

Crowns are dental prosthetics, also called caps, that are custom-made to fit snugly and permanently over a natural tooth. Traditional crowns require sending an impression of your prepared tooth to an external lab to create a made-to-order crown. As a result, the process can take several weeks. Same-day crowns provide the same benefits in one appointment.

Same-day crowns address a variety of dental issues. These include boosting your smile’s feel and appearance, improving the functionality of your teeth, and preserving tooth health. Benefits of crowns include:

  • Fixing crooked, misshapen, or misaligned teeth
  • Saving natural teeth
  • Strengthening decayed/damaged teeth
  • Improving mouth functionality after losing a tooth

Our experienced providers want you to know about the benefits of same-day crowns and how this process might be for you. Keep reading to learn more about same-day crowns and how they can solve your dental issues in one trip.

You don’t have to wait with same-day crowns

Traditional crowns that involved multiple visits and weeks-long waiting periods are being replaced in many cases by same-day crowns. Though the first and last steps are largely the same — with your dental provider shaping your tooth to accommodate a crown and cementing the final cap in place — the way the crown is made is completely different.

The same-day crown procedure

Your dentist begins the procedure much as they would for a traditional crown, removing any existing dental restorations and addressing damage or decay in your tooth. Once the tooth is prepared, your provider shapes it to make room for the prosthetic crown.

Using a high-resolution digital camera, our team takes detailed photos of the tooth and surrounding area. We use these images in 3D imaging software that makes an optical impression of the tooth getting the crown and converts it into a 3D model created with an in-office machine at Dental Studios.

Your customized ceramic crown is ready in less than 20 minutes. Your provider polishes the finished crown and places it on your prepared tooth, adjusting it as needed for fit and comfort before cementing it permanently in place.

You care for your ceramic crown just as you do for your natural teeth, being sure to maintain regular dental checkups

The same-day crown technology

The development of the Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic (CEREC) system was crucial in changing the efficiency of crowns. This system allows your dental team to give you a fully customized ceramic crown in just one day, rather than waiting weeks for a lab to fabricate it.

The CEREC system also allows your dental provider to maintain more control over the process of creating the crown, ensuring your new cap is perfect for you.
